Carsington Water Review For Families

Carsington Water Review For Families

We spent the May Bank holiday weekend in the Derbyshire Dales, enjoying everything they have to offer. From the fantastic town of Ashbourne, the cycle haven of the Tissington Trail, right through to a trip to Carsington Water, which has been on our list for some time. It certainly didn’t disappoint.
We camped around 25 minutes away from Carsington, and it was the type of place which persuaded us to start camping. A little too far from home for a day trip, but perfect for a weekend away camping.

If you’re camping nearby or just passing through Derbyshire, Carsington Water is a fantastic destination for a family day out.

Whether you want to cycle, walk, play, or just relax with an ice cream while taking in the view, it’s got you covered. Although we had our bikes with us, we’d done the Tissington Trail the day prior, so we decided to spend our time enjoying the park and taking a leisurely stroll.

We’ll definitely be back, and the bikes will certainly be off the car next time!

Ingbirchworth Reservoir Review for Families

Ingbirchworth Reservoir

One of our favourite types of family outings is a good reservoir walk—easy-going, scenic, and just the right distance to tire out the kids without them realising they’re exercising! This past weekend in March, with the first real hints of spring sunshine, we headed to Ingbirchworth Reservoir with some friends (who also have two kids, aged 9 and 6) for a relaxed wander. If you’ve read our Scout Dike Reservoir review, you’ll know that Ingbirchworth is part of the Three Reservoirs Walk in South Yorkshire, but this time, we focused on Ingirchworth primary reservoir —and it turned out to be a great little adventure for the kids.

Scout Dike Reservoir Review For Families

Scout Dike Reservoir

One thing we love about the school holidays is the new places we can visit. Whether that’s a significant car journey away or something a little closer to home; there are always new places to experience.

Over the Christmas school holidays, we visited Scout Dike Reservoir, a fantastic spot for introducing young children to the great outdoors. On the day of our visit, the wind levels were INSANE. Given its location in Penistone, it’s a considerable height above sea level so we certainly felt the wind!

Despite the blustery weather, it turned into a memorable trip that both our children, Matilda and Barney, enjoyed. Here’s a breakdown of our experience and everything you need to know before planning your visit.

Damflask Reservoir walking for families

This is predominantly a family cycling blog but as active travel enthusiasts, we also like to walk too!

We had a quiet Saturday afternoon and decided to grab our spreadsheet of ‘free family fun’ things to do and find somewhere relatively local. Damflask reservoir was on our list.

Damflask Reservoir is popular for angling and water sports, but there’s also a great walk around the water’s edge.

It sits just within the boundary of the Peak District National Park, giving it a beautiful countryside setting whilst still being easily accessible from the centre of Sheffield, just 5 miles to the east.

There are actually a number of other reservoirs in the surrounding vicinity so if walking is your thing it’s a good place to visit. These include Agden Reservoir & Dale Dike Reservoir both of which are managed by Yorkshire Water.

There’s no parking at the reservoir however it’s situated just outside the village of Low Bradfield which has plenty of parking and facilities available. The village for us was the icing on the cake and made the day even more enjoyable than we could imagine. The village has fantastic facilities including public toilets, a village hall, The Schoolrooms cafe, a post office/shop, a village field and a play park. It has everything you could imagine to enjoy an afternoon out.
