Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds Review For Families:

Kirkstall Abbey Leeds

Leeds, a vibrant city in West Yorkshire, England, is home to several historical landmarks that offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Among these notable attractions is Kirkstall Abbey, an ancient Cistercian monastery nestled along the banks of the River Aire.

Kirkstall Abbey holds immense historical and architectural significance, making it an ideal destination for families seeking a unique and educational experience. The ruins are fascinating to explore, and there are plenty of places for kids to run around and play. It was a sunny Saturday morning when we set off on our family escapade to this historical gem. Kirkstall Abbey was once one of the largest and most important abbeys in England. Today, the ruins are a popular tourist destination, and they offer a fascinating glimpse into the past.

If you’re looking for a place to visit with your family, Kirkstall Abbey is a great option. The abbey is open year-round, and admission is free for those with a Leeds postcode. Those from out of the region (like ourselves) had to pay a small entrance fee to enter the inner grounds of the Abbey. There’s also a visitor centre on-site, which has more information about the abbey’s history and highlights.

Golden Acre Park, Leeds Review For Families

Golden Acre Park

If you are looking for a place to spend a nice couple of hours to slow down and unwind, you should definitely visit Golden Acre Park. It’s a beautiful outdoor space whatever the season. With lots of natural vegetation, wetland areas complete with lily pads, a wonderful lake and a diverse range of flora and fauna, this place is perfect for families to relax and enjoy.

And yes, there is no play area for the kids in the park. So, if your definition of a park must include a playground, then this place may not be for you. But, if you wish to spend some time in raw nature, breathe in fresh air and cherish the exotic and vibrant views of the gardens, then Golden Acre Park is a must-visit.

We happen to visit the park quite a few times. Being the itinerary man, I had done my research about what’s there to do in the park before we first visited. I knew there wasn’t much for Barney and Matilda to do. And honestly, I wasn’t sure how they’d like it. But, when we saw them feeding the ducks and giggling with those tame squirrels roaming around, we thought we’d made up for it.

Roberts Park for Families Review

Roberts Park Map

As a family with two small children, we always look for new outdoorsy things to do on the weekend. The excitement when you discover a new place to visit within a radius of your home is something we love.

Roberts Park is a 14 acres public urban park in Saltaire, West Yorkshire, England. Higher Coach Road, Baildon, is to the north and the park is bounded to the south by the River Aire. A pedestrian footbridge crosses the Aire and links the park to the village of Saltaire.

We ventured to Roberts Park at the back end of the Summer months to meet friends who live locally.

We really enjoyed our visit to Roberts Park. It’s a beautiful park to walk around. Wonderful wildlife throughout, a cafe (overlooking the cricket field) and a bandstand. You can also walk right along the river which is a flat, even surface. Lastly, you can even venture over the bridge into Saltire which is a quirky place with plenty to do. Just over the bridge is the Salt Mills which have been converted into boutique shops and galleries. The building is a relic of Bradford’s industrial past.

Anglers Country Park cycling for families

Anglers Country Park is an award-winning Green Flag destination where you can explore the unspoiled countryside, woodland, wetland and trails.

Anglers Country Park is in Wintersett, Wakefield. Once known as one of the deepest open cast coal mines, Anglers has since been transformed into a park which welcomes thousands of visitors a month. It has also flourished into a beautiful haven for wildlife including many migratory birds making it a perfect place to visit whether you are in or from the surrounding area.

We love Anglers because it has a central lake with a 2-mile trail around the edges. It’s a perfect place to cycle with small children as the terrain is flat and child safe. There’s also a Room on the broom trail as well as a playpark for the kids. Parking is completely free for the first two hours but living in Sandal we are able to travel to Anglers on the old Barnsley canal path.
